Do cats like being groomed?

Some cats enjoy gentle brushing, while others only tolerate brief handling; enjoying a brush at home does not mean enjoying a bath, dryer or clippers at a salon. For cat owners in Subang Jaya, the useful question is which grooming help their particular cat needs and can tolerate. At PGH, Main Place Mall, short-coat basic grooming is RM90–110, long-coat basic grooming RM100–130 and kitten grooming RM60–80. These are service prices, not a reason every cat needs the full menu. PGH does not sedate cats, and its terms allow an unfinished session when a pet is aggressive or uncooperative, with completed work charged. Tell the team about previous reactions, coat problems and health concerns before booking. Ask what is suitable, how breaks or incomplete work are handled and what you should check at collection. No salon can promise that every cat will enjoy the experience.

Is enjoying brushing the same as enjoying salon grooming?

No. A familiar person brushing a comfortable cat is a different setting from travel, bathing, drying and unfamiliar handling. Judge the individual session rather than assuming that quietness means enjoyment.

Battersea recommends working at the cat's pace, offering the brush and taking a break when the cat becomes uncomfortable. Its guidance also notes that healthy short-haired cats often need little coat assistance and usually do not need bathing. Long or matted coats may need more help. These are reasons to discuss a specific need, rather than book treatments because another cat enjoyed them.

How can I recognise that a cat needs a break?

Changes such as a tense body, flattened ears, a moving tail, trying to get away, hissing or swiping can indicate discomfort. Give the groomer a clear account of previous reactions. Do not force handling at home to prove that a cat can tolerate it.

Cats Protection advises discussing stress concerns with a vet, particularly when behaviour or appetite changes. A grooming appointment cannot diagnose the cause.

What can I ask PGH before booking?

Ask which part of the service addresses the actual problem: loose coat, knots, dirt, nails or a requested style. Share coat photos and explain what your cat dislikes.

Basic cat service Published PGH price
Short coat, under 5 kg RM90–110
Long coat, under 5 kg RM100–130
Kitten, under 2 kg RM60–80

Prices checked October 2026. Larger cats, coat condition and behaviour can change the quote. The cat grooming price guide separates included work from extras.

Ask how the team will handle an item that cannot be completed and how to check progress. Do not assume a longer booking guarantees a calm or fully completed session.

Are cats sedated or held still until everything is done?

PGH does not sedate cats. Its published terms say a groom may stop if a pet is aggressive or uncooperative and completed work is charged. Confirm those terms when booking.

Do not give medication or a calming product for a session without veterinary advice. If handling is painful or unsafe, discuss the appropriate next step with your vet and the team.

What does a useful collection conversation cover?

Ask which items were completed, whether anything was deferred and what the groomer noticed. Your cat's response at home is additional information to share, not proof by itself that one particular cause is responsible.

Use the pickup checklist and first-visit guide. If you are unsure about a health or behaviour change, contact your vet and let PGH know.

Questions we get asked

Do all cats enjoy professional grooming?

No. Enjoying a familiar brush at home does not mean a cat enjoys bathing, drying or clipping in a salon. Plan around the individual cat rather than expecting a guaranteed calm result.

Does PGH sedate cats?

No. PGH does not sedate cats. Tell the team about previous reactions and health concerns before booking; grooming may be stopped if a pet is aggressive or uncooperative.

Does a short-haired cat always need a bath?

No. A healthy short-haired cat may need little coat help. Discuss the actual coat or hygiene problem and ask your vet if a medical condition is involved.
