Cat grooming prices in Malaysia (2026)

A basic cat groom in Malaysia costs about RM30 to RM60 for a short-haired cat and RM50 to RM80 for a long-haired cat, based on published Klang Valley price guides, with full grooms and trims reaching RM150. A lion cut runs from about RM80 to RM180. At PGH, inside Main Place Mall in USJ 21, Subang Jaya, a basic cat groom is RM90 to 110 for a short coat, RM100 to 130 for a long coat and RM60 to 80 for a kitten. A lion cut is RM180 to 200, and a full degrease adds RM180. Our basic groom includes a massage bath, blow dry and full comb-out, nail trim, ear clean, sanitary shave and paw trim. It takes about two hours and we never sedate. Wherever you go, the same things push the price up: matting, a greasy coat, and a cat that needs breaks.

We run a grooming salon, so read the PGH column as what we charge, not as a neutral survey. The Malaysia ranges come from Oyen's published 2026 price guide for KL and Selangor.

PGH sits at the top of the Malaysian range. The difference is time and what is included. A budget basic groom is often a bath, dry, nails and ears. Ours adds the sanitary shave, the paw trim and a full comb-out, and we book about two hours so nobody rushes a cat that needs a break.

What is included in a basic cat groom?

At PGH every basic cat groom includes:

  • Bath with massage
  • Blow dry and full comb-out
  • Nail trimming
  • Ear cleaning
  • Sanitary shave
  • Paw trimming

If you compare quotes elsewhere, ask whether the sanitary shave and the comb-out are included. Those are the two items most often left out of a cheap basic groom, and they are the two that stop mats and litter getting caught in a long coat.

What adds to the price?

Matting. A matted coat pulls on the skin every time the cat moves. Combing out a tight mat hurts, so a severely matted coat has to be dematted or shaved, at extra charge. We confirm the price before we start.

Grease. Oily coats clump, and clumps turn into mats. A partial degrease adds RM30 and a full degrease adds RM180.

Coat length and size. Long coats take longer to wash, dry and comb. Bigger cats take longer too.

Temperament. A cat that needs breaks takes longer. That is fine. Rushing a frightened cat is how scratches and injuries happen, for the cat and the groomer.

How much is a lion cut, and is it safe?

A lion cut shaves the body short and leaves the fur on the head, neck, legs and tail tip, so the cat looks like a small lion. At PGH it costs RM180 to 200. Published prices elsewhere in the Klang Valley run from about RM80 for a short coat to RM180 for a long coat.

It is safe when it is done for a reason and done carefully. Good reasons:

  • Heavy matting. Shaving is kinder than hours of dematting.
  • An elderly or overweight cat that can no longer reach to groom itself.
  • A long-haired cat that sheds heavily or brings up hairballs often, where brushing at home is not keeping up.

The risks are real but manageable. Short fur exposes skin to the sun, so light-coloured cats can burn. Some cats are frightened of clippers. Any shave can cause a minor nick or skin irritation. Heat alone is a weaker reason: a brushed coat helps a cat regulate temperature, and most indoor cats in Malaysia cope well with their full coat if it is kept free of mats.

Lion cut aftercare in Malaysian heat

  • Keep your cat indoors and out of direct sun until the coat grows back, especially white and ginger cats.
  • Check the shaved skin for redness for a few days. If redness or scratching lasts, see your vet.
  • Expect the coat to take several months to grow back.
  • Brush as it grows. New growth mats easily if it is left alone.

Will my cat be sedated?

No. PGH does not sedate any cat. We handle cats slowly, one at a time, with a massage during the bath and a low-noise dryer. Most cats settle within a few minutes. If your cat is very nervous, tell us when you book so we can plan the extra time.

How long does a cat groom take?

About two hours. A calm short-haired cat can be quicker. A long-haired cat with mats, or a cat that needs breaks, will use the full time. Plan your errands around it, or wait in Main Place Mall.

How often should a cat be groomed?

Long-haired cats such as Persians do best with a professional groom every six to eight weeks in Malaysia's humidity. Short-haired cats need one every two to three months. Our full schedule, including brushing and nails at home, is in How often should cats be groomed?
