Siamese cat in Malaysia: price, care
Siamese cat prices on Mudah.my, pedigree Siamese versus the local pointed kucing siam, the PRA and amyloidosis questions to ask, and how to groom a short Siamese coat.

A Siamese cat in Malaysia usually costs RM250 to RM800 from local sellers. On 27 October 2026, a Mudah.my search for Siamese returned 22 priced cat listings from RM60 to RM1,000, with a median of RM350, and most were mixes. Many cats sold as kucing siam are local cats with the Siamese colour pattern rather than pedigree Siamese. The pattern comes from one gene that limits colour to the face, ears, legs and tail, and any cat with two copies has it. A pedigree Siamese is slim and long, with blue eyes, a wedge-shaped head and a loud voice. It wants company and play every day. Ask a breeder about progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) and amyloidosis. The coat is short and fine, so weekly brushing is enough. At PGH in USJ 21, Subang Jaya, a basic groom for a short-coated cat under 5 kg is RM90 to 110, and a kitten under 2 kg is RM60 to 80.
PGH grooms and boards cats. We do not sell or breed them, so the prices below are other people's asking prices, not ours. This is general information from a grooming and boarding team, not veterinary advice.

Prices checked October 2026. Cat prices are the asking prices shown, after any discount, on 22 Mudah.my cat listings found by searching "Siamese" on 27 October 2026. They are not sale prices.
Of the 22 listings, 15 were mixes such as Siamese x BSH or Bengal x Siamese, or ads for several cats. Only 7 were listed as Siamese alone, and no listing title mentioned pedigree papers. If a seller says a Siamese is pedigree, ask to see the registration and the parents' PRA test results before you pay a deposit.
Is a kucing siam a real Siamese?
Not always. The coat pattern and the breed are two different things.
The pattern. Langford Vets at the University of Bristol explains that the Siamese allele makes pigment production temperature sensitive and limits colour to the points. A cat needs two copies to show it. A cat with one copy looks solid-coloured but can pass it on. A UC Davis study of over 200 cats found the same Siamese mutation in pointed cats from different breeds, including pointed Persians, so the pattern can turn up wherever the gene is.
The breed. The Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) standard describes a medium-sized, svelte cat with long tapering lines, a long wedge-shaped head, large ears, almond-shaped blue eyes and a short, fine, glossy coat. It disqualifies any eye colour other than blue. A local pointed cat with a rounder head and heavier body may be a lovely pet, but it is a Siamese-patterned cat, not a pedigree Siamese.
Both have the same short coat from a grooming point of view, so the care below suits either.
Why do Siamese cats have dark ears, face and tail?
Because of that temperature-sensitive pigment. The Lyons study describes the Siamese as expressing pigment at the extremities, such as the ears, tail and paws, with a mask on the face. CFA recognises four traditional point colours: seal, chocolate, blue and lilac. Seal point is the most popular.
Two things owners notice:
- The coat darkens with age. CFA and VCA both say the Siamese coat gets darker as the cat gets older, and the CFA standard allows for darker body colour in older cats.
- Every Siamese has blue eyes. CFA calls them sapphire blue. A pointed cat with green or yellow eyes is not a show Siamese.
Are Siamese cats good pets?
For a home where someone is around, yes. CFA describes the Siamese as vocal, affectionate and active, and says it can be insistent. It is often considered one of the most intelligent cats and uses a large range of sounds to tell you what it wants. VCA adds that one of those sounds can resemble a human baby's cry.
What that means day to day:
- Company. CFA says a Siamese needs closeness and human attention and will protest loudly if you want time alone. VCA says it often does well paired with another cat, especially another Siamese.
- Climbing and play. VCA calls them determined climbers that need sturdy cat trees and shelves, or they climb the curtains. Daily play with a wand toy uses up that energy.
- Time alone. VCA warns that a Siamese left home alone can over-groom from anxiety, which can lead to hair loss called psychogenic alopecia. If you see bald or thin patches, see cat hair loss: shedding or a problem?
- Diet. VCA advises asking your vet what type and amount of food suits your cat at each life stage. VCA puts an adult Siamese at 5 to 8 pounds (about 2.3 to 3.6 kg) and its lifespan at 12 to 15 years. For food choices sold here, see best cat food in Malaysia.
What health problems do Siamese cats have?
CFA says most Siamese are healthy, and that breeders are working on two issues.
Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA). PRA can cause blindness. CFA says the form in Siamese is a recessive gene that a genetic test can detect, so breeders can avoid pairing two carriers. Ask for both parents' results.
Amyloidosis. CFA says this causes liver problems and that the genes behind it are still being researched, so there is no test. Ask the breeder whether any related cats have had it.
Wool sucking and pica. VCA says young Siamese are prone to sucking wool and eating non-food items. Keep hair ties, string and fabric scraps out of reach, and see your vet if your cat keeps chewing things.
VCA also notes that kinked tails and crossed eyes were more common in earlier Siamese, and that careful breeding has reduced them.
How do you groom a Siamese cat?
The Siamese coat is short, fine and lies close to the body, and VCA rates its shedding 2 out of 5. It still sheds, and CFA says regular grooming keeps shedding under control. What works on this coat:
- Brushing once a week. VCA says a quick comb once a week is enough to remove dead hair. CFA suggests wetting your hands and stroking the coat until your hands are dry, or using a rubber brush. In air-conditioned Malaysian homes, shedding tends to be steady all year, so keep to the weekly routine rather than waiting for a heavy moult.
- Nails. An active climber keeps its claws sharp. Trim the tips every few weeks, or let us do it at a groom.
- Ears. The large ears catch dust. Look inside each week and wipe the outer part with a cotton pad. Brown wax that keeps coming back, scratching or a smell is a reason to see a vet.
- Teeth. If your cat accepts it, brush with a cat toothpaste. Ask your vet to check the teeth at the yearly visit.
- Baths. CFA says a Siamese should not need bathing unless it is being shown, and VCA calls the breed a fastidious cleaner that rarely needs a bath. Bath only when the coat is dirty or greasy, then dry it fully.
Do not shave a Siamese for the heat. The coat is already short, and a lion cut is a long-coat service. Our schedule by coat type is in how often should cats be groomed?
How much does PGH charge to groom a Siamese?
A basic groom for a short-coated cat under 5 kg is RM90 to 110, and a kitten under 2 kg is RM60 to 80. Most adult Siamese fall under the 5 kg line. The basic groom includes a massage bath, blow dry and full comb-out, nail trimming, ear cleaning, a sanitary shave and paw trimming. We never sedate, and a groom takes about two hours. Full prices are on the cat grooming page, and how we compare with other salons is in cat grooming prices in Malaysia.
Going away? A Siamese does not like being alone, so plan its stay early. The cat hotel has individual air-conditioned rooms with litter and a scratching tree, and supervised play time at no extra charge. The Deluxe Room is RM35 a night and the Presidential Room (6 ft × 6 ft) is RM60 a night.
Send your cat's breed, weight and a photo of the coat on WhatsApp. PGH is inside Main Place Mall, USJ 21, Subang Jaya.
Questions we get asked
- How much is a Siamese cat in Malaysia?
On 27 October 2026, a Mudah.my search for Siamese returned 22 priced cat listings, asking between RM60 and RM1,000 with a median of RM350. 15 of them were mixes or ads for several cats. The 7 listed as Siamese alone asked RM250 to RM800. No listing title mentioned pedigree papers. PGH does not sell or breed cats.
- Is a local kucing siam the same as a pedigree Siamese?
Not always. The pointed coat comes from one recessive change in the tyrosinase gene, and a cat with two copies has points whatever its breed. A UC Davis study of over 200 cats found the same change in pointed cats of different breeds. A pedigree Siamese also has the long, slender body and wedge-shaped head in the CFA standard, and registration papers to prove its parents.
- Why does a Siamese cat's colour get darker?
The Siamese gene makes pigment production temperature sensitive, so colour shows on the face, ears, legs and tail. CFA and VCA both note that the Siamese coat darkens with age, and the CFA standard makes allowance for darker body colour in older cats.
- What health problems do Siamese cats have?
CFA says most Siamese are healthy, and names two issues breeders work on: progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), which can cause blindness and has a genetic test, and amyloidosis, which causes liver problems and has no test yet. VCA adds that a Siamese left alone can over-groom from anxiety, and young Siamese may suck wool or eat non-food items.
