Pet hotels in Malaysia usually ask for proof that your dog or cat has had a combination vaccine. At PGH, in Main Place Mall, USJ 21, Subang Jaya, we accept any combination vaccine: a 7-in-1, 8-in-1 or 9-in-1 for dogs, and any core vaccine for cats. There is no minimum gap between the vaccine and check-in, and a clear photo of the vaccination record on your phone is enough. Puppies and kittens can board after at least one vaccination, at the owner's own risk, because protection is not complete until the course is finished. Kennel cough and rabies vaccines are not required. Flea and tick prevention is compulsory. If we apply it at check-in, Advantix for dogs costs RM38 to RM48 and Advantage for cats costs RM25 to RM35, depending on weight. Bring your pet's own food, and any medication with written instructions.
This guide sets out PGH's own rules and the general vaccine guidance behind them. It is not veterinary advice. Your vet knows your pet's history and should decide which vaccines it needs.

Which vaccines does a dog need before boarding?
International vaccine guidelines from WSAVA, the World Small Animal Veterinary Association, list three core diseases every dog should be protected against: canine distemper, canine adenovirus (infectious hepatitis) and canine parvovirus. All three spread easily where dogs gather, and parvovirus survives for a long time on floors and surfaces.
In Malaysia these are usually given as one combination injection. The number in the name tells you how many diseases or strains it covers. Most also include parainfluenza, one of the viruses behind kennel cough, and leptospirosis, a bacterial disease spread through rat urine and flood water that is common in Malaysia.
Which vaccines does a cat need before boarding?
The core diseases for cats are feline panleukopenia (feline distemper), feline calicivirus and feline herpesvirus, which causes rhinotracheitis. Malaysia's Department of Veterinary Services lists the same three as core vaccines. They are usually given together as a 3-in-1 vaccine. A 4-in-1 typically adds chlamydia, and a 5-in-1 adds feline leukaemia virus (FeLV).
Indoor cats need the core vaccine too. Panleukopenia and the respiratory viruses can travel on shoes, clothes and hands, and a hotel is a place where cats from many homes are under one roof.
7-in-1, 8-in-1 or 9-in-1: does the number matter?
Not for boarding at PGH. We accept any of them. The difference between brands is usually how many leptospirosis strains are included, and whether canine coronavirus is added. All of them cover the three core diseases. Check the sticker in your dog's vaccination book if you want to know exactly what was given, and ask your vet which one suits your dog's lifestyle.
Can puppies and kittens board before their course is finished?
Yes, at PGH, once they have had at least one vaccination. They board at the owner's own risk.
Here is why that matters. Puppies and kittens get antibodies from their mother's milk, and those antibodies can stop an early vaccine from working. That is why vets give a course of injections a few weeks apart, with the last dose at around 16 weeks of age or later. Until that course is finished, a young pet is not fully protected.
If you can, wait until the course is done before a long stay. If you cannot, start with a day of day care or a single night, and tell us your pet's age and vaccine dates at booking.
Is the kennel cough vaccine required?
No. PGH does not require the kennel cough vaccine. It protects against Bordetella and parainfluenza, which cause a harsh, honking cough that spreads where dogs share air. WSAVA lists it as non-core, which means it depends on the dog's lifestyle. If your dog boards or goes to day care often, ask your vet whether it is worth adding.
Does my pet need a rabies vaccine to board?
Not at PGH. Rabies vaccination may still be required by law depending on where you live, and it is usually required for international travel. Check with your vet and your local council.
How much is flea and tick prevention at check-in?
Flea and tick prevention is compulsory for every PGH guest, because one pet with fleas can quickly become every pet with fleas. If we apply it at check-in, the cost depends on your pet's weight:
| Pet | Product | Price at check-in |
|---|---|---|
| Dog | Advantix | RM38–48 |
| Cat | Advantage | RM25–35 |
One safety point every owner should know: never put a dog flea product on a cat. Advantix contains permethrin, which is toxic to cats, and its label says it must not be used on them. That is why cats at PGH get Advantage, a flea treatment made for cats.
We may also decline a pet that arrives with fleas, ticks, mites, an illness, an injury or aggressive behaviour, to protect the other guests.
What should I bring to check-in?
- Vaccination record. The book, a vet record, or a clear photo on your phone. Keep the vet's receipt too: from 2027, vaccination by a registered vet counts toward the Budget 2027 pet tax relief.
- Your pet's own food for the whole stay, so their diet does not change.
- Medication with written dosing instructions.
- A blanket or toy that smells of home.
Bookings are confirmed on full payment in advance. Our first-stay checklist covers packing and settling in.
What if my pet falls ill during the stay?
When you book, you agree that your pet can receive emergency veterinary care if it is needed, and that the owner pays for it. Leave a phone number you will answer while you are away, so we can reach you quickly.
